Bill's Mafia

Have you ever made a really bad choice on the internet? Like swipe right on a narcissistic sociopath on Tinder? Order 10 lbs of watermelon Jolly Ranchers off of Amazon? Or buy a thoroughbred on Facebook just because of his name? No? Just me? I acquired this arrogant creature in March of 2022 because of one reason and one reason only - an unhealthy relationship with the Buffalo Bills. For 35+ years now, the Buffalo Bills have tortured me, and for the last 15 months, this has been doubled down by a 15.3hh scrappy dirt bike who goes by the name of Diggs. Diggs was appropriately nicknamed after the best wide receiver in the league - Stefon Diggs. Like his name sake, this horse is freakishly talented, insanely quick, can leap 6’ into the air, and make moves that you didn’t think were possible. Also like his name sake, he doesn’t always play well with others, vocalizes his frustration often, and is usually leaving you shaking your head wondering why he can’t just keep his mouth shut. Be a team player. PLEASE DIGGS. The Good 1. Insanely athletic. As in, jump the 5’ standards athletic. Has a front end that makes you swoon. A canter you can drink a glass of wine on. 2. Low maintenance. As in, fed a scoop twice a day and barefoot. We rarely even bathe him and he glistens. It’s honestly annoying. 3. And for you x-ray junkies? The ones who want to ride the films? This war horse ran 74 times by the time he was 5, and is as clean legged as a newborn. He’s been radiographed from head to tail and they’re stunning. The Bad 1. He’s predictable in his unpredictability. As in, we know he’s going to spook from the same flower box every day. Dogs in a bush? Murderous. Childrens soccer fields in the distance? Absolutely not. 2. He doesn’t make friends easily. Little man syndrome is strong in this one, and he will get into a fight with every 17.2hh giant in the field.3. He cribs. Not even sure that’s a negative, because I honestly stopped caring after the rest of it.This horse needs a professional who’s going to laugh at his BS, be ready for the murderous dog bushes, all while staying soft and light when he cracks you out of the tack. I am honestly petrified to let people come try him, because he’s finally going insanely well for me, and I know the minute someone over interprets their ability and rips on his face for no reason, Little Man will resent all of humanity and I’ll be back to the drawing board. Asking mid-4s even though my vet, farrier, and friends have told me he’s worth quadruple that. But I know what I have, and I’m scared to get greedy. Incredibly negotiable if you can send me a picture of you at a Buffalo Bills game while inquiring. Only $1 if it’s in a Diggs jersey. I‘ve already got my Josh Allen. He’s in the profile pic.

What an absolute dude.

I spent my whole week last week ITCHING to swing up on Diggs. The girls back home kept me updated on his soundness (very sound), his sanity (very sane), and his demeanor (sweetheart), so I knew I had to swing on in this beautiful weather.

I just can't say enough good things. He's balanced. He's happy. He's sensitive without being hot, and he truly seems to like a job.

Claire and I get pretty offended when everyone says that my success is based on luck, but this one time I'll take it. I truly think that serendipity brought this horse into my life, and I look *so* forward to producing him and seeing where he goes this spring/summer!

Bill's Mafia, aka Diggs, let's go show them what the underdogs are made of. #buffalobills #billsmafia #shanghaibobby #sewickleystables #ottb

A Diggs update:I swung on Diggs for about a week, and I'll be honest - I fell more in love every day. He felt super sound, lovely gaits, and seemed to enjoy the job. But after that? I chucked him out and let him be a horse. Reading this guys record is both fascinating and slightly cringe worthy, as his longest break between races was only 6 weeks. He ran 1-2x/month from the age of 2 to the age of 6, and quite honestly, he might not "need" a break, but he sure as heck deserves one. So, for now? We just are putting the weight on, tidying the feet up, and letting him remember what it's like to be a horse who gets friends, turn out, and a bunch of snuggles. Every day, he trots to the gate to greet me, and every morning, we get a few scratches in.Every good team deserves an off season, so that's exactly what Bill's Mafia gets now! Enjoy a plethora of pics and videos of his break thus far! #billsmafia #shanghaibobby #ottb
